Where do black dyes drop the most and where? Pre-searing?

Pre-searing is the only place I've ever seen them drop. But it's so random. Are the low level monsters dropping them or the higher level monsters? I can't tell.

Anyone figure it out, thanks.

I think dyes are one of the only items that have an equal spread over the entire game. Although this is just a guess, I have absolutely no research or back up for it

Yea sorry thats not true at all. From experience, I've never seen black dye drop in post searing, and I've gotten 100s of dye drops since the game came out. My friend did tell me he got one once. But the majority of black dyes we've both gotten were in pre-searing.

I have no actual information on this but here is my own personal experience.

Out of 4 characters that I've taken through Pre-Searing, each to level 6-7, I've gotten 1 dye drop, which was silver.

So far I've had 1 black dye drop, which was post-searing, but I've only played 2 characters past level 15.

Remarkably, I've gotten 3 farming drakes and 1 in pre searing. Never seen one black drop anywhere else ever.

The reason you see them drop more often in KoA (pre-Searing) is because you're soloing without henchmen in KoA. Do the same anywhere in the game and you'll see the same drop-rate for dyes. They don't drop any more frequently in KoA, they're just less likely to be assigned to other party members and henchmen there. And remember, henchmen do take drops -- taking even one cuts in half your chances of getting a dye. You have to literally solo to get the same drop rates you got in KoA.

All my time of farming solo in post searing I've never seen them drop.

Sino-soviet, thats so strange, my friends and I have never gotten black dye from farming drakes and and my friends do it more often.

I'm thinking it might have to do with monster levels, the lower the monster level, the less drops it has available to it. I remember there was this one farm spot I had where I killed 100s of charr, it's the nolani academy mission where you open the gate, they dropped dye all the time, but it was green, red, etc, but still never black.

plain luck. all monsters can drop dyes and all dye colors.

it's just random luck.

it's when you least expect it. the holy "black" dye appears. hehe

Black dye is a lot more rare than the other colors. Just because you don't find on in a certain area doesn't mean you can't, it's all based on luck. I have 3 characters, 1 has beaten the game, 1 is at Frost Gate and 1 is at Nolani Academy. I have never gotten a black dye drop for me yet.

Just out of curiosity... how much are black and silver dyes worth? There definately seems to be a great deal of demand for these colours due to their rarety.

I have had one black drop in post-searing. Last week I had 3 silver drop in the same night. I was just running missions with henchmen in low level areas.

I think I would have to go with the luck theory. Since black is so rare I would say that there is some sort of percentage when dye drops to determine the color and black is the lowest percentage.

The lumbering slow and easy to kill stone elementals accounted for 8/15 of the black dye drops I had last night in 2 hours of play.

I have only found one black dye and it was shortly after the searing. I was in a party helping them out through the North Wall mission and one dropped. It was for me. Ever since then (I'm past lion's arch now) any time I was in a group, someone else always got the dye drops and they have been silver and purple. I used to get a lot of dye drops pre-searing though and even got silver on a few occasions. Lately though... not a dang thing... Ever since I got my black dye I think I got maybe one green one lol. I use hench because if dye does drop, it will be for me. I also use as little hench as possible so money and exp sharing does not get as effected as well.

I like to put smite skills on and go blast the charr armies at the Northern Wall and Nolani. It's great fun to watch them fall over dead and drop stuff. That's where I've gotten my blacks.

I tried it again this morning and got 1 black dye for 30 minutes of play. I am gonna take someone there and show them. It is tricky you have to use sprint or stormchaser and kill all the grawl outside sardelac sanitarium to the left up the hill back towards ascalon city as fast as possible so they cant kill the stone eles that are in that area. If the ston eles get killed forget it warp into the sanitarium and back out try again. I think it has something to do with the amount of stone ele's you kill across the whole map I got my black dye this morning after kill the 6th group of stone eles.
